Ontology is the philosophical study of the nature of being (from the Greek ὄν, genitive ὄντος: "of that which is", and -λογία, -logia: science, study, theory). In addition it is the study of existence or reality, and basic categories of being. Ontology is also defined as the inquiry into being in so much as it is being, or into that which has distinct existence, particular properties belonging to things or categories. Psychologically this relates to the study of categories of being or states of being.
States of consciousness do not just change how we think about things, but how we experience our world. In other words, our state of being is changed, our world is different, and our existence (what Heidegger named Dasein) is also different.
Transpersonal Psychology is a form of psychology (often referred to as the fourth wave of psychology) that studies the transpersonal, self-transcendent and spiritual domains of the human experience. The transpersonal can best be defined as those states of human consciousness or processes which include experiencing a deeper sense of who we are; a greater sense of connectedness with others; a greater sense of connectedness to nature or to spiritual dimensions. The transpersonal is a human experience and therefore theologically neutral. Transpersonal Psychology while recognizing the importance of a spiritual dimension of psyche it does not promote religious idealism. Transpersonal is inclusive of the domain that is not exclusively personal or egoic, but beyond both. Transpersonal is a consciousness that is expansive and beyond the mind/body awareness described by mechanistic and biologic psychologies.
Transpersonal – Ontology is the experience of being changed and experiencing the change based on our connection/relation to the transpersonal domain. It is the study and the categories related to being in transpersonal modalities. Transpersonal-Ontology is a new field of inquiry that came out of dialogues between me and Joy Bonham MA, both of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA. Transpersonal – Ontology studies the field of transpersonal experiences as categories of being, types of experience denoted as transpersonal being, and the transformative aspects of our being/existence as Dasein in relation to the transpersonal domains of experience.
